schreib-wache
Clean German spelling for Claude Code: real umlauts, hyphen instead of dash, no escapes.
What it does
schreib-wache checks everything Claude Code writes to files and commit messages and fixes three things before they are written: transliterations such as "fuer" and "Aenderung" become "für" and "Änderung", dashes become hyphens, and Unicode escapes in the text become the real character.
If you prefer to decide yourself, set the mode to "melden" (report): the plugin then rejects the write, names the line and the finding, and Claude writes again.

Key features
- Umlauts: around 100 unambiguous word parts (fuer, Aenderung, koennen, natuerlich, Oesterreich ...), deliberately cautious so that words like Quebec, queue and neue stay untouched
- Dashes: em and en dashes and their HTML entities become hyphens
- Escapes: backslash-u with four digits is replaced by the real character
- Works on new files, edits and commit and pull request texts (there only dashes and escapes)
- Two modes: correct (silently) or report (reject)
- Exceptions: web addresses, lines marked "schreib-wache: ok", files marked "schreib-wache: aus", paths of your choice
What it looks like
The image is an example: the window is redrawn, the texts in it come from the plugin itself, from its real functions and tests.
Limitations
schreib-wache is not a spell checker. The word list is deliberately small and does not recognise rare transliterations. It does not check ss and ß, because they cannot be told apart reliably without a dictionary.
Settings
The default follows oQueo's house rule: hyphen instead of dash. If you want to keep dashes, switch off the striche setting. Settings are made in Claude Code's configuration menu or in settings.json under pluginConfigs; see the guide for details.
Requirements
- Claude Code, in the terminal or the desktop app
- Tested with version 2.1.310 on macOS - older versions may not support the plugin interface, other systems have not been tested
Installation in brief
Unzip the file and put the schreib-wache folder in a permanent place. To try it out, start it once in the terminal:
claude --plugin-dir ~/claude-mods/schreib-wachePermanently, also for the desktop app: add the entry CLAUDE_CODE_PLUGIN_DIRS with the full path under env in ~/.claude/settings.json and restart Claude Code. If you use several plugins, list their paths one after another, separated by a colon (a semicolon on Windows). The full guide is included in the ZIP as ANLEITUNG.md (German).
Privacy
The plugin sends nothing to oQueo and nothing to third parties.
